Archant South West photographer Terry Ife, 47, has been awarded the Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society. Terry, who has been with Archant for five years, has been snapping up photos since he was a youngster. His first ever picture was of Guy the Gorilla at London Zoo – taken with a Box Brownie. The Royal Photographic Society, founded in 1853, is the most prestigious international photographic society. It has long been recognised for the promotion and maintenance of high photographic standards around the world. To gain the award, Terry had to submit a portfolio of 10 pictures for approval by a highly qualified panel of fellows of the society. One of Terry’s pictures was captured at the famous Ottery St Mary Tar Barrels event where people run the streets with flaming barrels. The picture shows a man looking through a flaming barrel – Terry managed to escape without being singed.
